This is the initial step for improving initiative skills. This is natural, if  I have no goal then I have not taken any action. So set your small goal and achieve that.  For example, this week your school function will occur. you can make a schedule according to your role. Which work needs to be done. How will it be and when? This strategy will help you improve your initiative skills. Also, you have gained the confidence to take initiative at work.

Similarly, you can set goals for your long term. Suppose you decide to learn creative skills. How to improve and what is the importance. For this achievement, you will take initiative to search for better results and find proper information or data about it. 21st century soft skills can be broadly classified into three main categories -

Literacy skills are the skills that help in creating and gaining new knowledge and abilities through reading, media and digital resources. These are ‘Information Literacy’, ‘Media Literacy’, ‘Technology Literacy’ and ‘Financial Literacy’.

Life skills are the skills required for successfully leading everyday life in this century. These are  ‘Flexibility’, ‘Leadership’, ‘Initiative’, ‘Productivity’ and ‘Social skills’. 

  • Critical Thinking: It is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
  • Creative Thinking: It is a skill that lets you consider things from a fresh perspective and different angles. It's an inventive thought process that results in surprising conclusions and new ways of doing things. Or we can say that it is a way to develop novel or unorthodox solutions that do not depend wholly on past or current solutions.
  • Collaboration: It is all about working together, towards a common goal.
  • Communication: It is the act of thinking about what we wish to say before uttering words, of organizing the thoughts we wish others to hear and discuss so they will result in appropriate action.
  • Information Literacy: It is that skillset which equips them with the critical skills necessary to become lifelong learners. 
  • Media Literacy: It is our awareness regarding our mediated environment or consumption of mass communication. It is our ability to responsibly comprehend, access, and use mass communication in our personal and professional lives.
  • Technology Literacy: It is the ability to use, manage, understand, and assess technology. 
  • Finance Literacy: It is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. 
  • Flexibility Skill: It is a personality trait that describes the extent to which someone can cope with changes in circumstances and think about problems and tasks in a novel in creative ways. 
  • Leadership Skill: Leadership is an influence of personal Power that creates progressively advancing communities towards the common purpose.
  • Initiative Skill: It is the ability to do work without being told what to do.
  • Productivity Skill: It is the ability to work efficiently in a specific period of time and produce a better output as compared to your input. 
  • Social Skills: These are the skills we use every day to interact and communicate with others.

So it is highly recommended for both our current and new generations to become efficient in 21st century soft skills. But Gen Z and ɑ are not aware of this.
