Feeling excited to know?!

Let’s start!

Communication is a function that exists naturally in every human being to express their feelings and emotions in a form of language. As I have said in my previous article that soft skills (Creativity, Critical thinking) are not academic courses. These are life processes that we carry from our birth to death. And I believe these skills will be improved when a healthy environment is provided. Similarly, communication is not a new skill for us to learn how to communicate, we just need to know how to communicate effectively so that we can connect with others easily. Right!

So before knowing what exact communication skill is, first we will know what precisely differentiate between just telling something and communicating something effectively.

Most people believe that communication and gossip are the same things, but it is not true. The reason is, when someone is talking, he shares his thoughts with people, and his major focus will be on sharing, he will try to speak as much as possible.

But in the case of communication, it is based on 80% listening skill, and 20% speaking skill, which means listening to a person attentively and sharing 20% of your talk, based on the other person’s mindset.

Second, Communication and gossip may also differ in their purposes.

How? Let’s discuss.

Communication skills have their own goal. When someone communicates, he has the proper mindset to communicate what he has decided to. It involves pre-planning and great intention. Every word that a good communicator says should be based on a purpose. Meanwhile, gossip takes place with no particular purpose. It can be a mindless casual affair between two people or more.

Thirdly, communication skill has a well set of conclusions. Every good communicator has in their mind how they conclude their communication effectively. And there is no doubt or confusion. On the other hand, gossip may or may not have a well-defined conclusion. At the end of gossip, there are different opinions that arise where gossipers may agree or disagree. There is no single output.

Fourthly, A gossiper might understand their way around words but are not aware of the emotions of others. They don’t have the sense to read others’ deep thoughts in their silent mode. But a good communicator has the ability to communicate silently, he knows the nuances of the silences between them. They communicate effectively by their body language.

A gossiper will have interesting things to say and the ability to drive a conversation forwards by blabbering, but an effective communicator will take notice of the momentary lapses of pondering and let the other party have some reflective space, an essential part of communication.

A gossiper only focuses on how to reply to others’ conversations, they don’t have the patience to listen carefully. Whereas a good communicator is a good listener, first they listen then respond.

A gossiper doesn’t control what they say. They have no self-awareness. But a good communicator has a sense of whether they should talk or not.

An effective communicator knows how to give feedback and how to respond to others. But gossipers don’t give any out of what they listen to. Because they only focus on how to forward their messages.

A gossiper has more words to gossip but there is no output. Gossip is always lengthy. but communication is always precise. A good communicator knows how to communicate precisely.

Hope you have understood the overall scenario of what communication skill really looks like.
